Product Review: Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque
Ingredients: Deionized Water , Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) , Argan Oil , Vegetable Glycerin , Emulsifying Wax , Sea Kelp Extract , Panthenol (Vitamin B-5) , Essential Oil Blend , Avocado Oil , Tocopherol (Vitamin E) , Hyssopus Officinalis Extract , Salvia Officinalis Leaf and Equisetum Arvense Extract (Sage) , Soybean Oil , Daucus Carota Sativa Seed Oil (Carrot)
**From walgreens.com**
Promises: Our all-natural intense treatment masque deeply penetrates to moisturize and repair over-processed, dry, brittle or damaged hair. Sea kelp trace minerals detoxify hair follicles of impurities and residue. Argan oil restores shine and rebuilds hair elasticity. Shea butter deeply moisturizes and repairs damage to hair and scalp.
How to Use: After shampooing, massage into wet hair and leave on for 5-45 minutes. Add plastic cap and moderate heat for deep penetration.
My thoughts: The only things I like about this product is that is smells good and it has a semi-thick consistency that melts into my hair. This product did not condition my hair at all. It left my hair super dry and it felt like I had not deep conditioned at all! I tried this on dry hair as well as wet hair after shampooing and got similar results. I dislike this product so much that after two uses I REFUSE to put this back in my hair. It made my detangling sessions painful! I used this product last week and if I had time to rewash and recondition my hair I would have in a heart beat. I would not be repurchasing nor using this product any longer. I rate this product as a 1/5.

I don't know many relaxed heads that actually like this product. For that reason, I stayed away from it. I may revisit it when I am fully natural, but since I am mostly relaxed, I am steering clear of this one.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see many reviews from relaxed ladies on this product. Those who did try it love it.
DeleteI'm newly natural and I hated this product too. The thick consistency also had me fooled into thinking that it would be great at moisturizing my hair. I used it the day I purchased it and returned it back to Walgreens the next day for a return.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had thought to return it. I waited about a month or so after purchasing it to try it. I probably still could have returned it. I will keep this idea in the mind for the future.
DeleteI see so many bad reviews about this product that I also refuse to try it. The most common complaint is that it has no slip. I'm sorry it didn't work out, bad wash days can be so annoying.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely had No Slip! Bad wash days are very annoying especially when you don't have the time to correct the problem!
DeleteWOW, thanks for this review. I haven't tried anything from Shea Moisture...I know most ppl love their moisture retention shampoo but I just decided not to try products for the sake of trying them and THIS is just why! I had the same experience with Miss Jessie's Sweetback treatment...thank you for saving me and others the aggravation!
ReplyDeleteDon't even waste your money. Glad I could help!
Deletesounds great, ive never tried shea moisture as they dont sell it here in the UK :(
ReplyDeleteIf you're relaxed it's not worth the fuss IMO.
DeleteI'm relaxed and I really didn't like it. I bought the whole travel kit (shampoo, conditioner, masque and oil) at Target because I wanted to try it. Like you, my hair was super dry and had absolutely no slip. The conditioner wasn't good that either. I just used it as a leave-in after a cowash and I like it that way better. The shampoo is great though!
ReplyDeleteI think this product is not that great for relaxed hair. I'm wonder why natural ladies love it so.
